New Powerlink® EM Lighting Control System from Schneider Electric Incorporates Smart Metering Technology

New Powerlink® EM Lighting Control System from Schneider Electric Incorporates Smart Metering Technology

Palatine, Ill. – August 16, 2010 – Schneider Electric, a global specialist in energy management, today announced the addition of the Powerlink® EM system to its Schneider Electric Powerlink G3 intelligent lighting control product family portfolio. The Powerlink EM system combines individual branch circuit remote control and metering functions in a single lighting panelboard enclosure to ensure users are able to instantly verify the performance of the control system by energy savings by circuit, zone, space, panel or complete lighting system. Furthermore, the Powerlink EM system provides historical trends that can be used to reveal opportunities for additional energy improvements and generates reports to allocate costs according to actual energy used. Smart metering is accomplished using the PowerLogic® Branch Circuit Power Meter (BCPM), which is a highly accurate, full featured multi-branch circuit power meter that provides unrivalled low-current monitoring.

“With the new Powerlink EM system from Schneider Electric, facility and energy managers are able to accurately monitor and verify energy performance,” said Jon Lifferth, product manager, Powerlink, Schneider Electric. “Incorporating the PowerLogic BCPM meter in the Powerlink system, those responsible for implementing lighting energy conservation measures now have the means for accurately verifying the performance of those measures.”

The Schneider Electric Powerlink G3 intelligent lighting control systems reduce electrical energy consumption associated with lighting and other loads by automatically switching loads off during non-occupied periods. In addition, Powerlink G3 systems are often used to reduce the peak demand by switching unnecessary lights off in response to an automated demand response signal or when high time-of-day energy tariffs occur. Additionally, the Powerlink EM system incorporates the same features found in the Powerlink 3000 level system including an integral scheduling functionality for operating individual brand circuit according to a daily schedule, full connectivity to building automation systems via BACnet and Modbus communications, and an embedded web server that allows instant access to the system operation and configuration.

FieldServer Technologies provides communication at South Africa World Cup

FieldServer Technologies provides communication at South Africa World Cup

July 21, 2010 – World Cup soccer championships from South Africa were enjoyed by many
millions of fans around the world. The
FieldServer Technologies Model FS-B4010 was installed in all 10 stadiums used
for the Soccer World Cup events. Communications
rooms in the stadiums used an existing SNMP monitoring system by NetBotz. This system provides CCTV monitoring in the
room and SNMP messages to the head office.
The FieldServers were used to convert information from different Modbus
devices and the Fire Panel data to SNMP to allow the NetBotz system to relay
all the information to the head office.

In preparation for
the high visibility and increased needs due to the World Cup, the
communications rooms were upgraded and improved to handle the expected increase
in communications including voice calls, SMS/MMS, as well as internet
access. The stadiums required high
communications availability, needing to monitor the different aspects of these
rooms, including power meters, Carrier chillers, diesel generators and fire
alarm panel.

According to nSoft president Bennie de Wet, the end user chose FieldServer,
“because of the FieldServer reputation for reliability in critical
applications. Also, FieldServer’s
library of drivers included not only Modbus, but also the Fire Panel driver as
well.” Mr. de Wet goes on to say, “The
project manager was particularly pleased that the single gateway could handle
all of their conversion needs,”

In addition to these installations
by nSoft, GE Security in South
Africa also utilized FieldServer gateways to
interface EST3 Fire Panels to BACnet front end systems in many of the
stadiums.

About
FieldServer Technologies

FieldServer Technologies, a wholly owned division of Sierra Monitor

HDBaseT Alliance Announces Incorporation, Finalized Specification

HDBaseT Alliance Announces Incorporation, Finalized Specification

HDBaseT™ technology enhances whole-home distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content, converging full uncompressed HD video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single 100m/328ft CAT5e/6 LAN cable

BEAVERTON, ORE. – June 29, 2010 – HDBaseT Alliance, the cross-industry alliance formed to promote and standardize the HDBaseT™ technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed high definition (HD) multimedia content, announced today its formal incorporation. The Alliance is founded by LG Electronics, Samsung Electronics, Sony Pictures Entertainment and Valens Semiconductor, all of which comprise the HDBaseT Alliance’s Board of Directors.

The Alliance also announced the finalization of the HDBaseT 1.0 base specification. The development of this cohesive specification is set to transform the digital media ecosystem, allowing consumers to enjoy premium content through unparalleled, uninterrupted HD distribution ‒ without the tangle of cables currently required.

“HDBaseT Alliance’s creation of a unified specification based on HDBaseT technology will raise the bar as the most technologically advanced, unmatched solution for optimum digital media distribution,” said Ariel Sobelman, president and chairman of the HDBaseT Alliance. “HDBaseT technology is poised to become the unrivaled next-generation home networking transport to meet the ever-changing trends in the digital media market.”

The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play™, an unrivaled feature-set that converges full uncompressed HD video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, high power over cable and various control signals through a single 100m/328ft CAT5e/6 LAN cable. HDBaseT has the bandwidth to support the highest video resolutions such as full HD 1080p as well as 3D and 2Kx4K formats. HDBaseT is the first to provide all-in-one connectivity, making it possible for a single-connector TV to receive power, video/audio, Internet and control signals from the same cable.

HDBaseT enables a network of sources — such as digital video recorders (DVR), Blu-ray disc players, game consoles, PCs and mobile devices — to be connected directly to displays in multiple locations. For instance, a DVR can be connected to several TVs throughout the home, allowing users an independent yet fully compatible experience. HDBaseT LAN based technology makes it possible to cut out the assortment of cables for audio, video, connecting CE devices and even the power source. This form of networking, whether it is done by daisy chaining devices or through star topology, can be applied in both the consumer home and in B2B cases such as digital signage networking.

The demand for in-home converged distribution of HD multimedia content and the lack of adequate existing technologies are driving the industry toward an HD digital connectivity standard such as HDBaseT. Through development of the HDBaseT 1.0 digital connectivity specification, the HDBaseT Alliance addresses consumer needs and high market demand. HDBaseT increases the transfer distance of uncompressed HD multimedia content, expanding distribution, simplifying installation and ultimately lowering overall system cost.

“Today, there is an abundance of content in the home, including video, images and data. As HDTVs and HDTV service proliferate throughout the world, the amount of content, and the ability to move it around the home, becomes much more complicated,” stated Brian O’Rourke, principal analyst, In-Stat. “The next frontier in networking is the ability to control and distribute this content. HDBaseT technology is well-positioned to offer a simple solution throughout the home to meet consumers' needs.”

The finalization of the HDBaseT specification paves the way for HDBaseT embedded products to hit the market. The HDBaseT Alliance anticipates products with embedded HDBaseT technology to be available in the second half of 2010, with the majority of adoption taking place in 2011. The specification will also be available for licensing within the second half of 2010.

Development and preparation for an HDBaseT Alliance Compliance Program is currently underway. The Alliance plans to formulate a logo usage and licensing program to ensure consistency and consumers’ ability to recognize interoperable HDBaseT devices in the market.

For more information about HDBaseT Alliance and membership, please visit the HDBaseT Alliance website at www.HDBaseT.org.

About HDBaseT Alliance

The HDBaseT Alliance is comprised of leading cross-industry companies formed to promote and standardize the HDBaseT™ technology for whole-home distribution of uncompressed HD multimedia content. The cornerstone of HDBaseT technology is 5Play™, a feature set that converges uncompressed full HD digital video, audio, 100BaseT Ethernet, power over cable and various control signals through a single LAN cable.

Members supporting HDBaseT technology will play a pivotal role in defining the future of multimedia transmission and data communication in the consumer electronics and content provider industries.
MatrikonOPC unveils secure OPC connectivity for wind power plants with OPC Server for IEC 61400-25

EDMONTON, ALBERTA, June 8, 2010 – MatrikonOPC™ announces the release of their OPC
Server for IEC 61400-25. This server provides secure access to wind power plant
control data for systems that may not support the IEC 61400-25 but require access
to the wind turbine data. This OPC Server expands Green and Renewable Energy
initiative systems’ ability to share data between systems that support IEC
61400-25 and those that do not.

This OPC
Server supports IEC 61400-25-1 and IEC 61400-25-4 Annex C using Manufacturing
Message Specification (MMS) over TCP/IP. IEC 61400-25-1 and IEC 61400-25-4 are the
key protocols used in wind power plant systems to allow multi-vendor wind
turbines to freely share, control and monitor data via a single consistent
protocol.

Server for IEC 61400-25 takes open data sharing to the next level by
providing secure and reliable data sharing between all IEC 61400-25 compliant systems
such as: RTUs, Intelligent Electronic Devices (IEDs), PLCs, meters, transducers,
relays and other automation components in the enterprise such as HMIs,
Historians and ERPs which typically do not support IEC 61400-25. This is the
missing piece in today’s wind power automation systems that bridge data gaps
between plant floor and the top floor.

“The key to a viable and sustainable Green and
Renewable Energy initiative is efficiency. Thanks to OPC and the way
MatrikonOPC implements and support it, users can confidently gather, analyze
and act upon the data that is key to their operationundefinedreducing maintenance costs
of automation and process control systems. The OPC
Server for IEC 61400-25 allows our customers to build more efficient wind
automation solutions that will help grow their business,” said Sean Leonard, Matrikon’s Vice President <SPAN style="font-size:11.0pt;

Building Automation in Russia: A Road to Energy Efficiency

Electricity in Russia costs four times less than in Europe (5-6
eurocents per kilowatt compared to 15-25 eurocents in Europe). However, the
market price for energy resources in
Russia grows 25-30% a year and will reach the European level by 2011. Russia is
on its way to start saving. The fact that energy savings and energy efficiency
can be reached through effective use of engineering systems in homes and
buildings is presently widely known and popular opinion matches the
Governmental Program about saving energy.
First building automation systems (multi-room, separate light and HVAC
controls) appeared in Moscow nearly 10 years ago and since then Intelligent Buildings and Smart Homes have started to
gain popularity. In the beginning of building automation market development the
main reasons to automate a home were purely ostentatious, i.e. a way to impress
your friends with smart controls or raise the class of an office building to
boost profits. And of course, the comfort.

Since approximately 2007 the trend has shifted to cost reduction and
awareness of unrenewable resources scantiness.
Construction companies don’t ask “What for?” anymore. “It’s possible to
maintain business profits, says a facility management company expert, “only by
conservation, because money saved is money earned. It’s just a change of
focus”.

This is where Building Automation systems come into play. The Russian
market for intelligent building controls has been growing 25% annually. Currently, regardless of the economy
stagnation, manufacturers and systems integrators aim to keep their market share and even present
their new products and services.

This they regularly do at the only trade show for building automation in
Russia, HI-TECH BUILDING held annually in Moscow.

The HI-TECH BUILDING exhibition
features Building Automation,
security systems, HVAC controls, light
controls, IT-infrastructure, Smart Home systems, Intelligent buildings,
technologies for energy efficient and green buildings.

The organizers welcome your company to exhibit. It would a unique
opportunity to enter the Russian market as control systems manufacturer with
your own booth or join your partners located in Russia if you already have one.
If not, about a1000 distributors will be there visiting the booths.

The trade show will take place on December

the rapid adoption of safe, low-voltage direct-current (DC) power distribution
and use in commercial building interiors – today announced it has added 15 more
companies to its coalition. Now more than 60-members strong, the Alliance continues to gain
the support of building industry and technology leaders in a collaborative
effort to bring greater energy efficiency and sustainability to new and existing

In
addition to broadening and deepening its membership base, the Alliance has also teamed with the California Lighting
Technology Center (CLTC) at the University of California – Davis, a research and education facility that
was created to drive the adoption and commercialization of energy-efficient
lighting technologies. EMerge has joined the CLTC’s public-private partnership
as an affiliate to increase engagement with lighting innovators and contribute
to the mission of improving efficiency and practicality of new technologies,
like DC-based LED lighting.

“Our
focus is on creating opportunities to accelerate the development and advancement
of the latest technologies for lighting efficiency,” said Konstantinos
Papamichael, co-director of the CLTC. “We’re excited about the rapid progress
that can be made with the new DC power platform and look forward to working with
the EMerge Alliance to further the efforts to take lighting efficiency to the
next level.”

On
average, LEDs and solid-state lighting can be up to 10 to 15 percent more
efficient in the hybrid AC-DC power distribution system established by the
EMerge Alliance Standard. According to EMerge Alliance Chairman Brian Patterson,
the CLTC has also signed on to provide resources and expertise to the Alliance in the product registration and evaluation
process, which is now open to Governing, Participating and General Members of
the Alliance.

“Working with the CLTC and its affiliates, we can make
major strides in the movement for new lighting technologies and greener
buildings,” said Patterson. “As the Alliance moves forward, we will continue to
partner with like-minded groups like the CLTC to further our progress toward
application and interoperability of products based on the Standard.”

Las Vegas, Nevada – April 6, 2010 – GreenPeak Technologies, (http://www.greenpeak.com) a leading fabless semiconductor company, announced that it is teaming up with the world's leading Consumer Electronics companies, Service Providers and the ZigBee Alliance to help roll out the next big thing – The Third Wireless Network for home and office that is Green and conserves energy.

Operating concurrently in the home with Wi-Fi Internet and Cordless phones, the third wireless network is based on the newly approved ZigBee RF4CE (Radio Frequency for Consumer Electronics) standard that is supported by the world's leading consumer electronic manufacturers.

Remote controls are among the first application to benefit from ultra low power ZigBee RF4CE. As ZigBee RF4CE is based on radio which penetrates walls, furniture, and floors, rather than line of sight optical IR (Infra-Red), this new generation of remote control means that users no longer have to point-and-shoot to their TV set or set top box to change channels or program the DVR. A single ZigBee RF4CE remote can control the entire home's electronic systems – TV, games, communications, home automation, audio, security, environment, etc.

The innovative GreenPeak ultra low power control network enables the remote controls to function on a single battery for a decade or more. "Not only are we making remotes that are essentially maintenance free," says Cees Links, Wi-Fi veteran and CEO and Founder of GreenPeak, "but by enabling remotes to run for ten times as long or more on a single battery, we are greatly slashing the amount of heavy metals, toxic chemicals and carbon footprint required for the creation and disposal of batteries."

Other ZigBee RF4CE capabilities include a central "dashboard" function on the remote control that includes monitoring home energy consumption as well as a cool "Find-Me" feature. Find-Me enables users to press a button on their TV set or stereo and their hidden or lost remote will make itself known by blinking, beeping or even playing music.

As part of the ZigBee family, ZigBee RF4CE is not limited to remote controls and can be used for many other low power low data rate applications including controlling lighting, heating/air conditioning, locks, home automation, in-home health monitoring and alerts, etc. This year we expect to see the emergence of ZigBee light switches that do not require any batteries whatsoever and can be stuck anywhere in the home. The effort of turning the switch generates enough power to transmit an on or off signal to a lamp across the room.

Never change remote control batteries ever again. Visit GreenPeak at NAB

The next generation of home theater and set top box remote controls are on the way. And they are Green. No more battery replacement.

Powered by radio instead of IR, you no longer have to point and shoot with your remote control.

Radio powered remotes can also be interactive and be the central dashboard for all the home's entertainment, security, environmental, games, etc. systems. In addition, the next generation can use ultra low power so that the batteries never have to be changed or recharged, and can run up to ten years!

No more duct tape or rubber bands holding your remotes together. No more broken battery compartments.

This new generation of home remote controls are powered by ZigBee RF4CE, originally developed by Panasonic, Phillips, Samsung and Sony.

"RF4CE" equals "Radio Frequency For Home Entertainment". The first RF4CE gear will be rolling out this year.

The ultra low power capability is brought to you by Greenpeak Technologies (www.greenpeak.com).

These are same Dutch engineers who created 802.11 and WiFi

Are you interested in meeting with GreenPeak's CEO Cees Links at NAB? He will be there Wednesday and Thursday, April 14 and April 15. South Hall, Upper in Booth SU 9313. Right next to the Destination Broadband Pavilion and the big AT&T booth.

Contact mark Shapiro at mshapiro@srs-techpr.com to set up a meeting.
