Rob Frazier has a career that spans five languages, four decades, three continents, and two centuries. Rob began his IT career as a night shift operator to work his way through college, and has worked in various IT positions all the way through CIO of McMurry University. He has been at the leading edge of computing technology, from running the third Amdahl mainframe ever delivered through advanced security operations at IBM Internet Security Systems. Rob Frazier is a frequent speaker at information security technology events, technical conferences and quoted in IT trade publications. While CIO at McMurry University in the mid 1990's, Rob Frazier managed a large project to network all the buildings on the 40 acre campus, including converging voice and data technology into a single unified network. As part of the project, Rob used network technologies to enable remote monitoring of the physical plant of McMurry, including HVAC systems, and then video over Ethernet and card access control systems. Converging different technologies over a TCP/IP enabled backbone, he opened new world of services and building management at McMurry University. Rob Frazier has an extensive background in computer security, beginning as an Army intelligence officer in INSCOM followed by a decade of government service in overseas postings to Europe and the Middle East. Rob's involvement in security and information technology found him at the forefront of the information security technologies, and was the first information security officer for the Department of State. He is active in computer vulnerability discovery and information gathering, including contacts in the underground hacker community. At IBM, Rob Frazier became involved in the security of customers in the strategic outsourcing business. In the course of that business, Rob became involved in customers that had TCP/IP enabled building controls, card access, and video systems that were part of the outsource contracts. These experiences game him deep insights into the issues of technology convergence, and more specifically, protecting and securing building controls technologies that are TCP/IP enabled. Rob Frazier has been a speaker on security issues related to building controls and automated buildings for the last three years at BuilConn. Most recently Rob spoke on security technologies for correlation that can have dual use to analyze building use patterns such as energy consumption, traffic, and card access use. Rob Frazier holds degrees in History and Modern
Languages from Texas A&M University, and holds CISSP and ISSAP certifications.
Rob is currently an Executive Consultant for IBM and the Global Security
Integration Manager for IBM Internet Security Systems. He speaks German,
Russian, French, Spanish and a smattering of Arabic. Rob lives in Abilene,
Texas, is married to Karen Frazier, and they have four children.
