CABA ESTABLISHES XML / WEB SERVICES GUIDELINE COMMITTEE

April 14, 2003

CABA is pleased to announce that it is establishing a committee that will work on the creation of guidelines concerning the use of XML and Web services in building automation and control applications.

The initial meeting of the committee will be held at BuilConn in Dallas, TX, on April 23 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m.

The creation of the committee will address the application of new communication standards for Web-based communications such as XML, SOAP and Web services within building control systems.

"While many building automation providers have begun to implement XML and other Web services, there is currently no uniform approach toward their application with concern to building control systems," states Paul Ehrlich, Product Manager at Trane Global Controls. "The goal of the working group would be to develop uniform guidelines to promote the open, standardized and interoperable application and implementation of these new communication standards."

Committee members would be encouraged to apply the finished guideline to their products. The guideline would also be provided to standards organizations such as OASIS, ASHRAE, EIA/TIA and others for potential acceptance.

CABA is inviting all interested industry members to participate within the working group. Please contact CABA if you want to attend in person or via teleconference.

The committee is a subcommittee of CABA's Standards Committee. The CABA Standards Committee is designed to monitor any activities of Standards making bodies that would affect the home and building systems industry and to form liaisons to provide input where appropriate.
