CABA TO CREATE TECHNOLOGY ROADMAP FOR INTELLIGENT BUILDINGS UPDATE

December 6, 2005

The CABA Board of Directors has approved the creation of an update to the Technology Roadmap (TRM) for Intelligent Buildings, which will be called the Intelligent Buildings Roadmap. This project was recommended by CABA's Intelligent & Integrated Buildings Council.

The original TRM was a collaborative research project between industry and government, co-managed by CABA. The project focused upon commercial, institutional and high-rise residential buildings, which culminated in a final report in 2002 that provided an in-depth examination of intelligent buildings technologies.

The TRM was a planning process driven by the projected needs of tomorrow’s markets. It helped companies to identify, select and develop technology options to satisfy future service, product or operational needs. Technology road mapping is a high level-planning tool for supporting technology management and planning and it has been widely adopted in industry, and to support national and sector foresight initiatives.

The planned update to the TRM would extend the timeline of the roadmap for the next five years and give industry added market research and context about the fast changing sector.

“The goal for the update is to identify the primary drivers and applications that will propel the sector and its set of technologies forward," states Ronald J. Zimmer, CABA’s President & CEO. “The update will determine whether past industry objectives were met and recommend new, innovative paths forward.”

Through the technology roadmap process, companies in a given sector can pool their resources, to determine what their specific market will require for growth.
