Current Projects

Through pilots and projects, CABA's Connected Home Research Council provides a way for members across industries to work together to develop and test new, innovative home and commercial solutions under real-world conditions.

  • Video Consumption

    Over the past five years, traditional broadcast TV delivery methods (cable, satellite and antenna) have been challenged by new delivery models (YouTube and Apple TV). With new set top box products and Internet services that deliver a wide variety of content, the ability to choose and control in terms audio-video entertainment.  Since early adopters already appear to have many options, this research project will examine which models of content delivery are more attractive than others.  It will also determine what people watching, and how content can be delivered for maximum enjoyment.

  • ‘Magic Kitchen’

    Through a collaborative process, the primary objective of the ‘Magic Kitchen’ project is to discover new rich technology and connectivity solutions for consumers in the kitchen environment. The ‘Magic Kitchen’ project will level set technology and application knowledge among key players from across the value chain, take a greenfield approach to concept/solution development and discover new “magic things” for the kitchen environment that will deliver value to consumers and meet expectations without restriction to form and/or function within a five to 15 year time-frame.

  • Energy Management as a Managed Service
    Project Description

    The evolution of the "connected home” lifestyle has been, in part, created by consumer demands that are driving tremendous industry change and opportunity. Content of all sorts will drive the connected home opportunity and the need to deliver more value will soon drive the need for a more integrated, more connected experience. The expansion of energy management will demand greater integration of devices and technology that will lead to new dimensions of both personalization and navigation of various energy management solutions.

  • Connected Home Roadmap 2009
    Project Description

    The underlying purpose of the Connected Home Roadmap 2009 project is to understand, and convey the value proposition of the “connected home”.  It is critical for this undertaking to take into consideration the perspective of the community of implementers (home builders, technology providers and product developers – members of CABA) and those who will experience, use and benefit from the concept of the connected home, the end consumer. This initiative will establish a vision for the market today and its near-term evolution by providing a framework to support stakeholders and players in the connected home arena as they navigate the complex and shifting dynamics of this emerging market.
  • Real World Opportunities in an Aging Population
    Project Description

    CABA's Connected Home Research Council is proposing a new research project entitled: Real World Opportunities in an Aging Population. The purpose of the study is to examine and determine potential connected home products, services and business opportunities based on the needs and expectations of the senior consumer market to support aging in place. Several core opportunity platforms that will be explored include: health and wellness; food (eating, cooking, etc.); exercise and fitness; universal design; medical support; communications; and entertainment.
