The growth of the Internet of Things (IoT) in buildings, and the data it makes possible, is changing the insurance industry. And that industry, in turn, will shape the adoption of those same technologies.

Here is an excerpt from a panel discussion that took place at the IoT PropTech Summit on Nov. 19, focusing on how insurance has become an industry in transition as a result of buildings IoT. Organized by IoT leak protection supplier Eddy Solutions, a ASHB member, and PCL Construction, this summit brought together technology leaders to educate on and discuss the state of IoT today, and the opportunities that IoT brings to business sectors, including the burgeoning proptech sector.

The insurance-focused panel featured Cameron Britt, Vice President, Personal Lines, Northbridge Insurance; William Fender, SVP Commercial Property Portfolios, FirstOnSite; Sandra Henkel, CMO, Hub Insurance Ontario; Chris Della Mora, Senior Risk Consultant, Hub Insurance Ontario; and Shkya Ghanbarian, Senior Director, Insuretech, at Eddy Solutions. The moderator was ASHB’s Communications Director, Conrad McCallum.

IoT PropTech Summit also featured expert panel discussion on how buildings are leveraging IoT, connected technologies and platforms, the future of building analytics, smart design standards, and more. The recorded sessions can be found at this link.
